2 years ago this Southern upland way run bothy was referred to as a murdorous hole in the woods!
Thanks again to Alice from Rigg House B&B , Kirkonnel, for her vision and enthusiasm for the bothy project and The southern upland way in general. If anyone wishes to volunteer on the route send us a message and we'll see where you fit in.
Everyone I meet on the route is wowed by the southern upland way's scenery, remoteness and varied landscape.
The bothy is now visited more frequently by Police Scotland's bothy watch initiative, the Southern upland way rangers, Forestry staff and timber truck drivers as well as volunteers. Many thanks to all
Most consider the SUW scotlands toughest long distance trail , and then others consider it the UKs toughest trail.
A great idea though and I look forward to meeting you with your wheelbarrow Bill. Also they make very comfortable seats when empty . You'll learn that trick I'm sure! Our maintenance track barrow may even meet your sponsored wheelbarrow on your quest for west to east egg transport!
Thanks to our Volunteer Alice for all her hard work and skills creating this , and brightening the inside walls of our Polskeoch / Chaulk memorial bothy!
Anyone got a book title they'd like added to the SUW bothy bookshelf?? Comments below please
The enigmatic golden eagle disappeared from England and Wales in the 19th century due to severe persecution. Scottish birds suffered from the use of pesticides in the 20th century. Luckily, golden eagle numbers are soaring high today thanks to conservation efforts.
