This section is normally split into two days with an overnight stop at Galashiels or Melrose. This gives time to look around these historic towns.
From Traquair the route climbs up onto the Minchmoor ridge which it follows before descending to the tweed through Yair forest, from Yair there is another climb over the hill to Galashiels and then on along the Tweed to Melrose.
After crossing the Tweed again the route gradually climbs onto a long low ridge before dropping down to Lauder.
